Es geschah das Wort des Herrn zu Jona , dem Sohn Amithais, und Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai , sprach: saying, 2. Mache dich auf und gehe in die große Stadt Ninive und predige Arise , go to Nineveh, that great city , and cry darinnen , denn ihre Bosheit ist herauf gekommen vor mich. against it; for their wickedness is come up before me . 3. Er sprach zu ihnen: Ich bin ein Hebräer und fürchte den Herrn, And he said unto them , I [am] an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD , the Gott vom Himmel, welcher gemacht hat das Meer und das Trockene . God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry [land]. 10. Da fürchteten sich die Leute sehr und sprachen zu ihm: Warum Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast du denn solches gethan ? Da riefen sie zu dem Herrn und sprachen: Ach Wherefore they cried unto the LORD , and said , We beseech thee, O Herr! laß uns nicht verderben um dieses Mannes Seele willen, LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life , und rechne uns nicht zu unschuldiges Blut , denn du , Herr, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, thust , wie dir es gefällt . hast done as it pleased thee. 15. Ich aber will mit Dank opfern, But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving ; I meine Gelübde will ich bezahlen dem Herrn , daß er mir will pay [that] that I have vowed. geholfen hat . Mache dich auf, gehe in die große Stadt Ninive und predige Arise , go unto Nineveh, that great city , and preach unto ihr die Predigt , die ich dir sage. it the preaching that I bid thee . 3. Da machte sich Jona auf und ging hin gen Ninive , wie So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of der Herr gesagt hatte. Ninive aber war eine große Stadt Gottes, the LORD . Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city drei Tagreisen groß. of three days' journey . 4. Und sollen Säcke um sich hüllen, beide, Menschen und Thiere But let man and beast be covered with , und zu Gott rufen heftig , und ein sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn Jeglicher bekehre sich von seinem bösen Wege und vom Frevel every one from his evil way , and from the violence that seiner Hände. Wer weiß, Gott möchte sich kehren und ihn reuen und sich wenden Who can tell [if] God will turn and repent, and turn away von seinem grimmigen Zorn , daß wir nicht verderben . from his fierce anger, that we perish not? 10. Da aber Gott sah ihre Werke, daß sie sich bekehrten von ihrem bösen Wege, And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way ; reute ihn des Uebels, das er geredet hatte and God repented of the evil , that he had said that he would do ihnen zu thun, und that es nicht. unto them ; and he did [it] not . Jona / Jonah 4. 1. Das verdroß Jona fast sehr und ward zornig. But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry . 2. Aber der Herr sprach: Meinst du , daß du billig zürnest? Then said the LORD , Doest thou well to be angry ? 5. Und Jona ging zur Stadt hinaus, und setzte sich gegen morgenwärts So Jonah went out of the city , and sat on the east side der Stadt und machte sich daselbst eine Hütte, da setzte er sich of the city , and there made him a booth, and sat unter in den Schatten, bis er sähe , was der Stadt under it in the shadow , till he might see what would become of the city widerfahren würde. . 6. Gott der Herr aber verschaffte einen Kürbis, der wuchs And the LORD God prepared a gourd , and made [it] to come up über Jona , daß er Schatten gab über sein Haupt, und errettete ihn over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head , to deliver him von seinem Uebel, und Jona freute sich sehr über den Kürbis. from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd . 7. Aber der Herr verschaffte einen Wurm des Morgens, da die Morgenröthe But God prepared a worm when the morning rose anbrach , der stach den Kürbis, daß er verdorrte. the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered . 8. Als aber die Sonne aufgegangen war, And it came to pass, when the sun did arise , that God verschaffte Gott einen dürren Ostwind , und die Sonne stach Jona auf den prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the Kopf , daß er matt ward.
